Please use Creative Commons images and music recommended in 'Creative Commons' on left. 1. Consider the themes that are dealt with in Deadly unna? - friendship, manhood and masculinity, family, growing up, identity, racism, fitting in and not fiiting in.
Create a visual story in which you reflect on one or more of the themes that are raised in Deadly unna? Your story does not have to be based on Deadly unna? but it does need to explore one or more of the themes.
You can choose to do this as hard copy or online. Your story must include images and text and, depending on your presentation, could also include music.
2. Listen to the songs of the Aboriginal musicians listed, choose one or two songs, then create your own online visual story incorporating images, text and music.
Think about themes expressed in the song and collect images which, for you, represent the themes/ideas raised in the song/songs. Add the relevant parts of the actual song and your response in a creative way.
Choose a current AFL indigenous player and put yourself in his shoes. You are to write the text in the first person ("I am...") as if you are him
Create a visual storyabout various stages of his life. You must include references to the following:
Where he was born;
a description of where he grew up;
his childhood and family;
the community in which he grew up;
his interest in footy;
the move interstate; how he felt on leaving his family and arriving in a new place;
the team he joined and how he felt in that club;
his contribution to AFL and the broader community; his role in raising awareness of indigenous culture through football or other ways.
You must choose images to reflect what was happening at various stages of his life. Do not find actual pictures of this person, but choose creatively, so that each image reflects your interpretation of the aspect you are depicting. For example, if your character is home-sick after leaving home, choose an image that captures that feeling. Think about search words you could use in one of the image sites provided (see 'Creative Commons > Images'), eg. loneliness, alienation, and choose the image that you feel fits best.
Think about how your pictures will make your ideas powerful.
Here's an example of a message which uses images very cleverly and thoughtfully:
